Affiliate and commission deals with influencers

A commission deal pays a creator a share of the sales they drive, tracked by their promo code or link. It can replace a fixed fee or sit on top of one. It works best when sales are tracked automatically, returns are netted out before anyone is paid, and both sides see the same numbers.

Fixed fee, commission or both?

  • Fixed fee: the creator is paid for the content, whatever it sells. Best for awareness, launches and new products with no sales history.
  • Commission only: the brand pays only for results. Creators accept it from brands they already love or whose products sell easily; expect fewer takers for unknown products.
  • Fee + commission: the most common middle ground. A lower fixed fee covers the creator's time; commission rewards content that converts. It pairs well with a monthly ambassador deal.

Creators are stacking these: Indian influencer-driven sales grew about 28% year on year in the first half of 2026, and creators' earnings from product sales rose about 35% (vendor reports; see the sources).

Agree what counts before the first post. A promo code (for example SARA10) is easy to say on camera and works offline. A tracked link counts clicks and catches buyers who never enter a code. On The Creators Bio every commission gets its own tracked link; when the brand's Shopify store is connected, orders that used the code or arrived through the link are attributed automatically. Codes must be unique per creator, or sales go to the wrong person.

Returns windows and statements

Commission is paid on net sales: order value before tax and shipping, after discounts and returns. So each month settles only after a returns window, then becomes one statement. On The Creators Bio the brand reports the month within 5 days of the window closing (or it settles on its own from Shopify), pays the statement plus the service fee, and the commission is held 72 hours before it's released to the creator. Returns that arrive after a month settles come off the next statement, and statements under AED 10 roll into the next month.

Tiers and bonuses: a worked example

A creator drives AED 80,000 of net sales in a month:

  • Flat 10%: AED 8,000.
  • 10%, then 15% above AED 50,000: AED 5,000 on the first AED 50,000 + AED 4,500 on the rest = AED 9,500. The higher rate applies only to sales above the threshold.
  • Brand pays: AED 9,500 + AED 950 service fee (Starter plan) + VAT on the fee if billed in the UAE.
  • Bonus: a one-time amount when total sales first reach a target (for example AED 1,000 at AED 100,000) gives creators a goal across months.

Open affiliate programmes

Instead of negotiating with each creator, a brand can publish one programme (rate, tiers, returns window, who can join: followers, niche and country). Eligible creators join with one click and get their own code and link; the brand sees clicks, sales and commission per creator. It suits brands that want many smaller creators, which is where much of the GCC and Indian market is heading.

Disclosure

Affiliate links and codes are advertising: the creator must label the post clearly, just like a paid post. In the UAE that also means the advertiser permit; for other Gulf countries see influencer licences in the Gulf. In India, ASCI requires a clear disclosure label on affiliate and paid posts.

Questions

What's the difference between affiliate and commission deals?

They're the same idea: the creator earns a share of the sales they bring in. 'Affiliate programme' usually means an open programme many creators can join on the same terms; a 'commission deal' is agreed with one creator, sometimes on top of a fixed fee.

How are sales tracked?

With the creator's own promo code, their tracked link, or both. A code works anywhere (Stories, video, in person); a link catches buyers who never type a code. Using both gives the fairest count.

Why wait before paying commission?

Returns. Commission is paid on net sales, so each month settles only after a returns window (often 14 to 30 days). Returns that arrive later are deducted from the next statement.

Who reports the sales?

The brand: by entering the month's total, importing an orders CSV, or connecting its Shopify store so paid orders and refunds come in automatically. The creator sees every order next to their clicks and code copies, and can query a statement.

Do creators pay a fee on commission?

Not on The Creators Bio. The brand pays the service fee on top of each statement; the creator receives the full commission.
